Work Ordered Day

As part of the international Clubhouse model, at the core of every clubhouse is the Work Ordered Day. In place to parallel the day-to-day activities of a traditional workplace, the Work Ordered Day at Canefields Clubhouse begins at 8:30 in the morning through until 4:30 in the afternoon. Structuring our daily activities around an 8 hour day, as typical of most workplaces,  assists our members to experience and become comfortable with participating in a workplace environment.

At Canefields Clubhouse the Work Ordered Day is completed by all units. Our units include a large Business Unit and the Catering Unit. Everyday everyone attending Canefields Clubhouse is part of a Morning Meeting where the plans for the day is discussed and members have the opportunity to volunteer for roles they wish to fill and tasks they wish to complete for the day.

Business Unit

It is the role of the Business Unit to contribute to the operation of the clubhouse and facilitate the running of our employment and education, housing, and some in-house training programs. Daily, the Business unit completed structured tasks that keep the clubhouse running and thriving, such as administration and reception, record keeping, data base management, fundraising, grant writing, marketing, accounting and financial management, to name a few. Participation in the Business Unit offers an extensive amount of skill development opportunities.

  • Computer literacy
  • Peer-to-peer advocacy and support

  • Professional communication & customer service
  • Accounting and Financial management and record keeping
  • Program and event planning
  • Grant and proposal writing

Donate to Canefields Clubhouse

Canefields Clubhouse accepts donations of any size to help with the development and creation of high quality programs and services for our members. Donations over $2.00 are tax deductible.

Catering & Maintenance Unit

The Canefields Clubhouse Catering & Maintenance Unit, similar to the Business Unit, has their own structured tasks to complete each day. All of which keep the kitchen and entire unit running smoothly and safely. The Catering Unit is responsible for cooking and preparing all the food and beverages for Canefields Clubhouse members and staff, and cleaning and maintaining workplace health and safety in the Clubhouse.  Each day members involved in the Catering Unit make small morning tea items and large lunch meals for everyone. All food prepared for lunches is made from fresh ingredients and made from scratch where possible. Each food item is sold at an affordable price to ensure all of our members have access to healthy, ‘home cooked’ meals. Involvement in the Catering Unit offers many skills that many members can transfer to their everyday lives.
